Forklifts for Transport and Freight
In transport, the clock is the constraint. A truck at the dock is a truck not earning, and a container held longer than its free days costs money directly. Everything the forklift fleet does is measured against turnaround time.
MHS supplies forklifts to transport operators, freight forwarders and depots across New Zealand — machines that work the yard, the dock and the inside of a container. Whether you know what you want or need help figuring out what to run, we’re here to help.
Transport & Freight
Materials Handling Equipment for Construction and Building Supply Operations
Construction and building supply businesses operate in tough, fast-moving environments where reliability and lifting capability are essential.
From unloading building materials and transporting heavy loads through yard environments to storing products in warehouse racking systems, forklifts play a critical role in keeping construction supply chains moving.
MHS helps construction businesses across New Zealand identify forklift solutions designed for demanding industrial environments.
Forklifts for Freight and Transport
Construction industry forklifts must operate across both indoor warehouse environments and outdoor yard conditions.
Typical tasks include:
- Unloading building materials from trucks and containers
- Transporting heavy products across yard environments
- Storing palletised goods in warehouse racking systems
- Loading delivery vehicles for transport to construction sites
Forklifts used in construction supply operations must be durable, powerful and capable of handling heavy loads in challenging conditions.
Noblelift Forklifts for Freight Operations
Typical tasks include:
- Timber and building products
- Palletised construction materials
- Bulk goods and packaged products
- Heavy equipment and industrial components
Forklift Equipment for Transport Operations
Construction and building supply businesses often require forklifts capable of operating across a variety of environments.
Diesel Forklifts
LPG Forklifts
Electric Forklifts
Electric forklifts can be used in indoor warehouse areas where quiet operation and emissions-free equipment are required.
A Solutions-Led Approach
At MHS we start by understanding how your construction supply operation works before recommending equipment.
Our team considers factors such as:
- Yard layout and warehouse configuration
- Load weights and product types
- Indoor and outdoor operating environments
- Forklift utilisation and operating hours
- Future operational requirements
Based on these insights we recommend forklift solutions that deliver the best balance of performance, reliability and commercial value.
While we specialise in Noblelift forklifts, we can also source alternative equipment where it provides the best outcome for your operation.

What do transport and freight operations need from a forklift?
A mast that fits inside a container.
This is the constraint most often missed. A standard mast is too tall to enter a shipping container at full height, so container work needs a free-lift or low-profile mast. If it’s done wrong, the machine can’t do the main job it was bought for.
Tyres and drivetrain for the yard.
Depot yards are sealed, unsealed or both, often with gradients and standing water. Pneumatic or solid pneumatic tyres handle it; cushion tyres suited to a warehouse floor don’t.
All-weather capability.
Freight doesn’t stop for rain. Cab options, lighting and weather protection affect whether the machine keeps working through a wet Auckland winter and whether operators stay productive in it.
Fast, repetitive dock work.
Loading and unloading is high-cycle work with tight timeframes. Machines specified for occasional use wear out fast under it, and dock cycle time is where turnaround is won or lost.
Materials and tasks
Transport and freight operations typically handle palletised freight of every description, containerised cargo, LCL and consolidated loads, and oversized or non-standard items. Typical tasks include container loading and destuffing, cross-docking, truck and curtain-sider loading, yard movements and staging freight for outbound runs.
Unlike warehouse work, most of it happens under time pressure with a vehicle waiting.
How we specify transport and freight equipment:
- Whether machines need to enter containers, and mast type accordingly
- Yard surface, gradients and drainage
- Split between yard, dock and indoor work
- Cycle times and peak dock demand
- Weather exposure and operator comfort
- Freight profile, including anything oversized or non-standard
