Forklifts for
Construction
and Building Supply
Building supply yards ask more of a forklift than most warehouses do.
Machines work outdoors on gravel and uneven ground, handle long and awkward loads, then come inside to the racking and the trade counter — often in the same shift.
MHS supplies forklifts built for that mix to timber merchants, building materials suppliers and construction distributors across New Zealand.
What do building supply operations need from a forklift?
Four things separate a yard machine from a warehouse one:
Capacity with room to spare.
Packs of timber, plasterboard and blockwork are heavier than typical palletised freight, and capacity drops as lift height
increases. Specifying to the average load rather than the heaviest is the most common and most expensive mistake we
see.
Tyres matched to the surface.
Cushion tyres suited to a smooth warehouse floor will struggle on a gravel or broken-seal yard. Pneumatic or solid
pneumatic tyres handle both.
Attachments for awkward loads.
Fork extensions for long timber, side shift for placing loads without repositioning the machine, and fork positioners
where load widths vary through the day.
A workable answer to indoor and outdoor use.
Diesel handles the yard but can’t work indoors. LPG bridges both. Electric and lithium suit indoor and covered areas
with lower running costs. Sites running both environments often end up with a mixed fleet rather than one
compromise machine.
How do we specify a construction forklift?
At MHS we start by understanding how your construction supply operation works before recommending equipment.
We’ll work with you to get undersanding on your:
- Yard layout and warehouse configuration
- Load weights and product types
- Indoor and outdoor operating environments
- Forklift utilisation and operating hours
Future operational requirements
Based on these insights we recommend forklift solutions that deliver the best balance of performance, reliability and commercial value.
